Sorghum also called as jowar is the main crop of North Karnatka which sown in both Khariff and rabi season. It serves both as grain and fodder. It has high nutritional content.

Kodumuruka Jola

It is a sorghum variety. Khariff crop. Good yield. Used as staple food and also a good fodder. The grain is pale yellow in colour and they are bold grains. Grown in Jamkhandi Taluk. It is grown in black soil.

Gangawathi Jola

Sorghum variety. Khariff crop. ----- is very less. Grown in Mazati village of Hukkeri Taluk of Belagaum district. Used as both food and fodder crop. It is 4 month crop. The grain looks like a white pearl. It is grown in red soil.

Rabi crop. This is a pop variety of sorghum. Used to make pop during festivals in North Karnataka. Grown in Ilkal of Bagalkot district. It is grown in black soil.

Nandyal jola

Gatti Beeja jola

Khariff crop. Tall variety of about 12 to 15 feet height. Good for food and fodder. Grown in Hebbali of Dharwad district. It is grown in red soil.

Vyakarnal Jola

Khariff crop.Tall variety of about 10 to 12 feet height. Good for food and fodder. Grown in Ilkal area of Bagalkot district. It is grown in red soil.

Kagimuthi Jola

Rabi crop. This is a pop variety of sorghum. Earhead in black in colour. The grains are white. Used to make pop during festivals in North Karnataka. Grown in Bidarkundi of Muddebahal Taluk of Bijapur district. It is grown in red soil.

Kala gunda Jola

Khariff crop. It is a very tall variety of about 15-18 feet high. Very less husk. The rotis are very soft and tasty. It is a 300 year old variety conserved by Asia biggest undivided family. It is grown in red soil.

Kempu aralina Jola

Khariff crop. Tall variety of about 10 to 12 feet height. Pop variety and for fodder. Grown in Hebbali of Dharwad district. It is grown in red soil.

Kempu Vagaru Jola

Khariff crop. Tall variety of about 10 to 12 feet height. Grown as a fodder crop. Grown in Arasinaghatta of Tarikere Taluk of Chikmagalur district. It is grown in red soil.

Maladandi jola

Khariff crop. It grows to height of 6 to 8 feet. Grown as a food crop. Grown in almost all parts of karnataka. It is grown in black soil.

It is a traditional variety conserved by a family name called chandki therefore university has named it as Bedarkundi-name of the place and the chandki-family name. It grows to height of 6 to 8 feet. Sakari Mukri Jola

Rabi crop. Nutrient content is more. This variety is roasted during the milk stage of the grain and taken as a 'belasi'. It grows to height of 6 to 8 feet. Grown as a food crop. Grown in Bijapur and Bagalkot district. It is grown in black soil.

Kadubina Jola

Yenagar jola

Gundu Tene Jola (karigone beligone)

Rabi crop. The grains are very and flour yiled is more. Grows to about 10-12 feet height. Food and fodder crop. Grows in Jantlishrirur, Mundragi Taluk, Gadag District.

Mullu Sajje
